Immersion Media Scores Agreements With United States Golf Association [USGA] and the National Basketball Association [NBA]
May 9, 2004 - Immersion Media [IM] announced today that it has signed an agreement with the United States Golf Association [USGA] to create an online guide to the rules of golf. Using its unique 3D animation technology, IM will bring to life approximately twenty five [25] of the most challenging rules that professional and amateur players encounter on a daily basis.
Created exclusively for the USGA web site, the features will be narrated by the renowned ABC and ESPN broadcaster, Roger Twibell. The first delivery will be made before the U.S. Open in the middle of June and the remainder will be completed by the end of July, 2004.
"We are fortunate and grateful to be able to work with an organization like the USGA," said Immersion Media’s president, Rick Perko. "We have felt that our unique technology was perfect for golf, and we could not have found a better client for a partnership in that sport."
To assist in this and other projects, IM uses a motion capture animation system that enables it to create high quality 3D products. "We have been compared to video-game companies in our production quality, and this is the hardware that helps us accomplish those goals," said Perko.
For the NBA, IM is creating a series of animated playbooks for that organization’s web site that analyze important plays that teams run in crunch time. Sponsored by LamisilAT, these features include a print component that is appearing in Sports Illustrated throughout the playoffs. "This is another terrific client for us, and we were ready to contribute our expertise when they called on us," said Perko.
Immersion Media is a Fayetteville, NC-based company with a production office in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The company uses 3D animation technology to teach sports skills, rules and concepts. Its clients include the NFL, Major League Baseball, the NBA and Wilson Sporting Goods. The company has filed a prospectus with the Secretary of State’s office in North Carolina and is seeking to raise $1 million in venture capital to consolidate offices, hire more staff and expand to the retail market.
